Due to the revision of the Fire Service Act in May 1990, it has become mandatory to use pipes of Schedule 40 or higher from JIS G 3454 (STPG) when the design pressure of the piping for connected water supply systems exceeds 0.98 MPa (10 kgf/cm²).
